Please be aware of new entry requirements for non-Canadians that the Government of Canada will be implementing on December 31, 2018.
This will affect international students attempting to enter Canada and obtain a new study permit to attend classes commencing after December 31, 2018.
This will not affect students who currently hold valid study permits and travel documents and may be travelling outside of Canada during holiday closures at the university. This is because existing study permit holders are currently exempt from providing biometrics unless they were required to do so when they originally applied for documents in their home country.
New entry requirements of biometrics for non-Canadians: Government of Canada legislation
Changes effective December 31, 2018 - students may require additional time
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has brought in new entry requirements for international students (and other foreign nationals) coming to Canada. As of December 31, applicants from most of the world will need to have biometrics done, prior to applying for a study permit. This means it may take longer to get a study permit, and students may need to travel to get to an approved biometric centre before they can apply for a study permit.
It is essential that students get biometrics done as early as possible to avoid delays with their study permit application.
